The Highest Success Rates in the Nation

Our podiatrists also offer alternatives to foot surgery and ankle surgery. When you arrive at the UFAI medical center, your DPM will give you a thorough examination, often taking x-rays to gain an accurate assessment of your foot pain.

Not all bunions require foot surgery. Depending on how developed your bunion has become, our patients sometimes can gain relief with softer shoes or by wearing orthotics.

University foot evaluation procedures are carefully crafted individual treatment plans. We understand that your foot problems can take many forms: flat feet, hammertoes, bunions, heel pain, ingrown toenails, ankle pain, plantar fasciitis, or sports injuries.

What is a Bunion?

A bunion (sometimes misspelled bunyon or bunyion) usually presents as a calcified bump on the inside edge of the foot, to the bottom left of the big toe. Bunions also can form beneath the little toe. Then, they are called a tailor's bunion.

Foot experts agree that bunions affect as many as one-third of adults. They mainly are found in women and older adults.

Bunion Surgery Options

For those patients who are unable to find pain relief through the use of bunion-correction methods, our DPMs review types of bunion surgery options. These include:

  • Lapidus bunionectomy

  • MinVasive bunionectomy

  • Akin bunionectomy

  • Opening wedge bunionectomy

  • Austin or Chevron procedure long arm osteotomy

  • McBride bunionectomy

  • Tightrope with Austin bunionectomy

  • Tailor’s bunion surgery

If you are experiencing chronic swelling and inflammation, foot and toe pain that is limiting your daily activities, or severe foot bunion pain, call to schedule a consultation so that we can discuss the specifics of your situation.
